Monday Night Youth Races was created by Louise Keane
Monday night youth racing is back up and running again in Corkagh Monday. All are welcome along, any type of bike so long as it is roadworthy, all ages from 3-16, and all levels of ability from absolute beginner to seasoned internationals.

Sign on is from 18:30 to 19:00, and racing runs from 19:00 to roughly 20:00 or possibly a bit longer depending on numbers. We'll be there every Monday from now until the end of the Summer holidays.

Entry fee is €2 and can be paid on the night.

We had another great turnout of almost 40 youths out in Corkagh park tonight, and there was some super racing on show.

B race placings (21 starters):
A mixture of all the groups from limit to semi-scratch in the placings, with only the scratch riders missing out. First timer and youngest competitor on the day Tom Flynn made the most of his handicap, and very nearly stole the win, getting pipped into 2nd place on the line.
1st, Cara Holmes (U10), Orwell;
2nd, Tom Flynn (U6), U/A;
3rd, Elba Bayon (U8), U/A;
4th, Evan O'Hara-Ng (U12), Inspiration;
5th, Danny O'Beirne (U8), Blanch Wheelies;
6th, Odhran Reilly (U10), Orwell.

A race placings (17 starters):
Limit and semi-limit came together on the final corner, and split the placings evenly between them. Semi-scratch just missed the catch and rolled in 10 seconds further back, while scratch never came close to getting on terms.
1st, Darragh Saunders (U12), Orwell;
2nd, Luca Holmes (U12), Orwell;
3rd, Aine Reilly (U12), Orwell;
4th, Aidan Bayon (U12), U/A;
5th, Aoife Murtagh (U14), Lucan;
6th, Killian O'Brien (U12), Orwell.

We will have an evening off next Monday as there's another group booked in to the park, but we will be back the following Monday (28th) and then every subsequent Monday until the end of the summer.

Emily has asked me to dispute her TT time as she feels she definitely gave a sub 9 minute effort!

Very well run Dave. Emily was delighted with her prize in her first ever race! :-)

Thanks to Ivan O'Brien for the round up from last night

We had twenty five starters and plenty of supporters for an evening’s racing in the shadow of the fun fair that had appeared beside the track - clearly somebody had been spreading rumours about how much fun everyone has in Corkagh Park on a summer evening! It was another beautiful evening in what has been an amazing summer, and perfect for some fast times.

After the time trial we split into two groups for elimination races, ever-decreasing circles and handicap races. Final results were taking by combining results from the elimination and handicap races.

In the junior race Karl Bernie (Dunboybe) and Anna Cobbe (Orwell) swapped 3rd and 4th between the two races to share third overall, while Oisín Handler (Swords) was second in both races. Colin McLoughlin (Blanchardstown) took two fine wins to take the overall.

The senior elimination race involved a small bit of confusion for the first elimination from the fast group (the Commissaire holds his hands up here), but there was no doubt about the winner as Niall Kelly withstood Ryan Fox’s (both Orwell) early sprint before launching his own for a clear win. The senior handicap came together up the last hill: Luke Bernie (Dunboyne: SL) won by 5 seconds followed by Katie Reilly (Orwell: SS) and Áine Reilly (Orwell: L), with the fast-galloping Scratch group of Niall and Ryan almost catching her on the line, Matthew Boughton (Inspiration: L) just behind in 6th - only 5 seconds separated second to sixth, so every pedal stroke counted!
When the sums were done our final placings were Ryan in 4th, Luke in 3rd and joint first for Niall and Katie.

But most importantly of all, everyone had a great time - much more than the shrieking masses on the funfair rides!

Thanks Terry Reilly for the round up

Newcomer Poppy Hamilton (U8) took the Glory in the Short TT @1:22
in the U12's Ryan Fox 1:38
U14 Ruairi Byrne 1:34
U16 Andrew Ryan 1:28

In the U10's Elimination Race:
1st. Fionn Crinion (IMBRC)
2nd. Poppy Hamilton (Shimna Wheelers)
3rd. Mathew Keogh (Unattached)

Senior Elimination Race: (remember guys (i.e Ruairi) its not about being 1st each lap)
1st. Andrew Ryan (Orwell)
2nd Ruairi Byrne (Orwell)
3rd. David Forbes (Orwell)

U10's CP
1st. Laoise Crinion (IMBRC)
2nd. Evan ( Mc Nally Swords)
3rd. Oisin (Mc Nally Swords)

Senior Crit, After working out the handicap for a 5 lap race, I bowed to pressure from the older crew and ran a 15min + 2 Lap Crit. Was going to throw in some Primes but all I could muster was some notepads and drawstring bags ( thanks Una) in the end they weren't required as all raced hard from the start and my 5 lap handicapping, which i never changed, was blown apart. The result was as the Elimination Race:
1st. Andrew Ryan (Orwell)
2nd Ruairi Byrne (Orwell)
3rd. David Forbes (Orwell)
Ryan Fox chased hard to get back to David Forbes but ultimately took a very respectable 4th.

Una's drawstring bags where presented as attendance prizes to younger guys.

We have a Blue Bell helmet which we found after the event.
