Rás na nÓg 2016. was created by Dave Mc
Updates from Rás na nÓg with 2 stages gone and 1 left to go.

This race is a big step up both in difficulty and number of competitors for most of our current crop of youth riders, but all of them are still upright, still competing and most importantly all enjoying the experience.

In the Under 12s Lorcan Cattle and Ruairí Byrne have been well matched coming in together a little down on the bunch in each stage so far. Ruairí is sitting 25th on GC overnight and Lorcan is right behind him in 26th.

The Under 14s is our best hope of success this weekend with Lara Gillespie currently 3rd place girl on GC, with Andrew Ryan and Ronan O'Connor constantly close by in support. Tadhg Fitzsimons and Dylan Baker are both riding their first race at this level and found the pace a bit of a shock to the system, and both have battled on to finish well without losing too much time. Andrew is best of the U14s overall in 23rd, and Lara is right behind him in 24th. Ronan is in 34th place, Tadhg 39th and Dylan still on the 1st page of results in 45th!

In the Under 16s Ronan Fanning is riding his first open race, and though he has missed some of the main splits he has been active trying to get into moves all race long and is holding onto an excellent 19th place on GC.

The final stage is done and dusted and all of the Orwell riders have finished safe and happy with themselves.

In the Under 12s Ruairí got better with each stage, finishing up in 23rd overall, with Lorcan 1 place behind him in 24th.

In the Under 14s Lara and Andrew ended up level on points, slipping ever so slightly to 24th and 25th places respectively, which was good enough for 3rd girl for Lara. Tadhg was another steady improver, moving up to 34th overall, with Ronan just behind in 36th, and Dylan rounded out the 14s in 48th place.

Best of our lot was Ronan F. in the under 16s, taking an excellent 7th place on the final stage to move up to 16th on GC, which is an impressive return from his first ever road race.

Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, learned lots from the experience, and all are looking forward to racing again.
