Intro to Club League Session - Brittas then Corkagh - Saturday April 7th was created by Luke GJ Potter
Similar to
sessions run in previous years
, I'll run it again this year.
It's on a Saturday which interferes with the W200 Training Groups, but Paris-Roubaix is on Sunday!
This is mainly aimed at the new riders to the Club League, but returning rusty riders and anyone thinking of signing up to the league next year are very welcome. It'll suit anyone thinking of racing the Women's Crit League too, as it covers 4/6 of the rounds.
The Corkagh Park session it a bit too short by itself for a Saturday Spin, so I'll put in a easy trip to Brittas for a look at the circuit and some Road Drills. We're looking at about 3.5 - 4 hours. Attend as much of it as you'd like.
If you're interested in the session, Click the Thank You button below, so we'll get an idea of interest, as that'll allow us book Corkagh Park.
If you're interested in helping out with a leadership position, post a comment below.
I had to reformat the session due to Corkagh Park being booked until 15:00.
Start
We'll start at the Spawell Garden Centre on the R137 at 13:30.
Intended route: Intro To Racing Session Route
Talk: Introduce leaders
Talk: Intro to Club League/Racing: Groups, Races, Format
Brittas Circuit Session
We'll spin the legs out nice and easy along the N81. We'll turn off on to the quieter Lisheen Rd. after The Blue Gardenia Pub.
Road Drills
We'll do some Up and Overs all the way to Blessington's bridge, via Manor Kilbride, and we'll finish by racing to the uphill on to the end of the circuit.
Then Spin to Corkagh Park.
Corkagh Park Session
As the races will generally be Ride in a group until the catch is made, then try to win by attacking, we broke the drills down as follows:
1. Race Begin Simulation Riding in a group at pace
1.1. Easy Pace.
1.2. Higher Pace without braking (coast instead of brake)
1.3. Doing up and overs on the straights.
2. Race Ending Simulation: Attacking and chasing.
In the group the first three riders will be in single file. Rider 3 will attack, Rider 1 will try to close it down. Attack should stop after 10-30 seconds and riders move to the outside of the track and rejoin at the back of the group.
This drill is also applicable for team work in open races.
3. Elimination Race
Small oval Circuit. Neutral first lap. 2 riders eliminated every lap, until 3-5 riders ride for the win.
4. Handicap Race
10 or 15 minutes + 2 laps, three groups, each given a 1/4 lap gap.
Aim is for all riders to ride hard for at least 15 minutes.
They should form groups if they are out the back, or off the front.
Other Spins
Try to get out on the Alternative Sunday A4, League & Womens Spin.

Hey just wondering if this going ahead as planned? And if so, would you have any ETA for Corkagh park on Saturday?
Cheers for organizing this!

It's still on.
I think around 15:00 in Corkagh, it's booked until then.
