Gerry Brannigan was a very popular member of Orwell Wheelers and the IVCA who died suddenly in October 2006 aged just 52 years.
Each year, we all hear of deaths or serious injuries in our cycling community, be it from an accident or illness and we all wonder if we could be of any help or assistance to cyclists and their families. With this in mind, we established The Gerry Brannigan Benevolent Fund in 2007 to support them through difficult times.
The event starts at 10.30 from the Grasshopper Inn in Clonee , so marshals should assemble at the Grasshopper at 09.45 for a 10.00 rollout.
For those not familiar with the process, the marshals will ride out as a group, and drop people off at junctions. Once the broomwagon has passed, a new marshal bus then forms behind and picks up the marshals as they pass.
It's for a great cause, and always a friendly event, and unlike when marshalling many other events, you're not stuck on a corner for 2-3 hours - it's usually a max of 15-20 mins before the bunch arrives. Once they've passed through safely, you jump on the back of the marshal bus and cycle the rest of the route back to base.
There will be no spins from the shop, any available members are expected to be in Clonee. It's €20 to the Gerry Brannigan fund, and that includes a raffle ticket and a great feed of sandwiches and teas afterwards.
To help us plan, please stick your name down below if you'll be there next Sunday.

I plan to cycle out as well.
I am on the list of team leaders for the spins next Sunday but I understand that this will not go ahead - am I correct?

That is correct Fran. Ian Anderson has also posted about this.
