Be Seen Be Safe!!!

Make it a new winter cycling resolution to light up while you are riding your bike! Drivers certainly need to be extra alert during this time of year, but it is also the cyclist’s job to make sure that he or she is easily seen.

How can you do this?
Start by having lights on the front and back of your bicycle. Next, be seen with reflective clothing and accessories—wearing light coloured clothing isn’t enough. Reflective materials are far more visible at night because they don’t absorb the light but reflect it back.
Place reflective tape on your helmet and/or directly on your bike. Wear reflective jackets, vests and straps. Reflective materials on moving parts, such as your ankle or knee, have been shown to be particularly helpful in increasing visibility.

Audax (long distance cycling) organisers invariably encourage Hi-Vis clothing on their events. An Irish rider on a recent audax in the US, informs us “…that I realised that luminous anklets are compulsory in US events!
These “luminous anklets” are the ones on sale in Aldi at the moment. The leg movement when you are cycling and these anklets can keep you seen and safer (we hope) while cycling.

I didn't think that tomorrows spin was going to be in darkness. Cycle in control, stay on the right side of the road and leave braking distance.

Not unless we get an unexpected solar eclipse Fintan!!!.

The idea of the 'Be Safe Be Seen - Spin' is to: highlight safer cycling coming into the darker winter months, and to link in with our Club President's focus on safety - with the new club kit.

Lots of vouchers on offer tomorrow (terms and condition apply)

Cheers,
Leonard
