Midweek Evening Cycling is back 1st April was created by Garret Connolly
Hey all
Tuesday evening cycling is back.....please let me know if you're no longer cycling/emigrated/no longer interested etc etc and I'll take you off the list of emails.
Rough plan for this year is:
April approx 50km+ with 1000m+ of climbing
May approx 60-65km with 1200m+ of climbing
June approx 75km+ with 1400-1600m of climbing
July as above
August similar to May
Sept/Oct similar to April
The starts points will always be 6pm Harolds Cross Bridge bike shop and then The Yellow House 615pm. Leaving Rathfarnam sharp at 615pm. The cycling is open to all standards but for absolute beginners it may be a bit too much. Ideally anyone who's interested should be able to cycle 50km+ and get over a hill similar to Howth without too much hassle. Otherwise it's a enjoyable group spin for all standards.
We'll split it into 2 groups minimum with a faster group(Wicklow 200/Marmotte/Etape etc etc level which is self lead by the cyclists themselves on the night) and a slower group led my myself ideal for all standards who want to get in some miles and hills midweek. Nobody will ever be left behind and we regroup at the top of each hill so it's impossible to get lost. The evening cycling is ideal for getting anyone ready for any sportif throughout the year and will, alongside longer weekend cycle, dramatically increase your climbing ability if you stick at it.
Lights(may be getting dark when doing the last descent from the hills) and helmets are an absolute must. No helmet no cycle.
Next Tuesday April 1st is the 1st spin of the season and the route will be an old favourite:
Harolds Cross at 6pm-Rathfarnham 615pm-Blue Light climb-Johnny Fox's-Devils Elbow-Glencree-Featherbeds 'King of the Mountains'-Dublin.
Approx 50km with 1000m of climbing from the Bridge.
Hope to see loads out there next week and remember rain is only there to keep yourself cool while climbing up the hills!

thanks to all 40-45 people for turning up tonight...huge numbers for April 1st. Was a lovely night and everyone got home safe which was great. We were the last group of 5 home and climbing the featherbeds in the almost dark, in the clouds with visibility of around 5metres max was indeed spooky. Stuff horror movies are made of but we survived! Hope to see you all next Tuesday. Watch this space for details. And yes there will be hills
cheers
