Can anyone recommend good orthopedist / clinic was created by Peter Wiktorowski
Hi

I broke my collarbone recently and I'm in recovery process. However consulted my X-ray with another orthopedist recently (outside of Ireland) who said I should get surgery ASAP instead of waiting for this to heal on it's own as there's a chance I'll need than break it again and do another surgery, obviously would rather avoid that

Does anyone knows good orthopedist or rather a clinic I could get 2nd opinion from ASAP, the bone is about to start solidifying, so if indeed I need a surgery this should happen this week...

I've broken both of mine at different times and had one heal on its own and the other with a plate and six screws. I have no medical expertise but understand the latest thinking is not to have surgery unless it is essential or that speed of healing is very important. For example if the broken bone is in two pieces or more they recommend surgery but if it is a single break and the two parts are alongside they will fuse together. If you are a professional athlete / violinist / or need a perfect shoulder they will recommend surgery for speed of recovery. If you want to get a specialist opinion as far as I know you will need to go to your GP and get a referral from them. If you have health insurance, first check with your insurer which clinics they cover and ask your GP to refer to one of them

thanks Shaun yes I'm aware it should heal on it's own normally, what bothered me is that 2 parts of the bone seem to be quite dislocated like 2 cm away, of course I'm not qualified to judge that so my flatmate who is ex athlete reached out to his orthopedist (based in Germany) and he said to him this looks like big dislocation and needs surgery. SO i have 2 contradicting opinions and basically would like to get another opinion here in Ireland. The reason this is urgent (like tomorrow or Tuesday) is this is 4th week now and last moment to do surgery (if indeed needed), in another week or two they will need to break it to fix it and obviously I'd rather avoid that scenario...

Hi Peter,
Try to call CyclingIreland this morning, or email them early today, so they they respond.
They deal with this all the time, and their insurance provider/underwriter will likely recommend getting the surgery, or have some basis for comparison or your break vs. other's breaks.

P.S. I'm only a pretend Doctor.

Asked cycling Ireland but they said they are not doctors and don't give any recommendations on doctors / clinics (tbh expected that).
BTW do you possibly know if CI insurance is of any use if i have private medical insurance covering my medical expenses? Seems only cover is medical expenses with excess amount and 3rd party liability?
Tbf it's very cheap, but also doesn't really seem to be of any use if you have good health insurance and don't need 3rd party liability...

Hi Peter, I broke mine in December 2020 and was told it would heal (clean break), 3 months later it had not healed and I was told I needed surgery. After the first surgery, I was told due to the location of the break the plate would need to be removed. Overall I was not able to cycle for 10 months. I used my health insurance and I claimed on my cycling ireland insurance for the excesses in my policy. Happy to talk with you on it.
