Safer City Cycling

Hi, All

I came across this recently – “A bit of news about busconnects.”

It's going to provide 200km of cycle lanes. The more people that get cycling the safer it is.
You might send an email broadly in support of the scheme; as if it doesn't receive support it won't go ahead.

Just some things that should be mentioned for improvement are
• Remove left slip turns that cross over cycle lanes
• Provide bus stop bypasses for cyclists so there's no conflict between buses and cyclists.
• No sharing of cycling lanes with pedestrians
• Provide continuous separated cycle lanes all the way to junctions with a buffer between the lane and the road

Also the deadline for the first round of submissions is the end of the week.

On a separate but related note which may be of interest to anyone who has ever had to endure Dublin's Quays:

There will be a special meeting of Dublin City Council's Transportation Strategic Policy Committee about the Liffey Cycle Route next Wednesday, 3 April at 3pm. Ten years on from its initial proposal, there will be an update from the NTA and the Council.

These meetings are normally streamed live online, if anyone is looking to tune in.
