Deep scratches on paint-job: a tale of woe :( was created by Rory Fogarty
Hi All,
So I've gone and been extremely negligent and scratched the paint on my fancy bike :(
The scratches are small, but quite deep, going pretty much down as far as the frame.
In order to stop the scratches from becoming a weak point and becoming larger, and also just for general care for the surface of the bike, does anyone have any advice on how to protect damaged paint jobs on bikes? A lovely varnish perhaps?
Cheers,
Rory

Hi Rory,
Stick up some photographs of the damage. Are you talking carbon - aluminium or steel?
Paint damage should not get "worse" unless there is damage sub-structure (the frame) In general very small scratches can be repaired by a skilled DIY'er but after that only a professional spray job will give acceptable results, particularly if the scratch crosses multiple or "blended/faded" colours.
Regards
Val.

Hi all
I've done something similar. Small but deep scratch on rear fork, half way down from saddle. WIll post picks up later. Caused during transport on rear bike rack from another bikes brake caliper nut!
Can anyone recommend a good skilled DIY'er? It's a carbon frame.
