Resurfacing Works was created by Sinéad Brennan
Hi,
Resurfacing work has resumed on the road between Kippure and the Sally Gap. It was closed to traffic this morning. It’s just about passable on the bike but messy.
Likewise, the road from Powerscourt Hotel to the bottom of the Poggio has been resurfaced. The chippings here are particularly loose so care is needed on the descent.

The road is open there now but a lot of loose chipping around especially at the top of Lough Bray on the sharp corner which would be lethal on the decent.

The road from Johnny Fox's to Glencree (Ballybrew Rd, from the beginning of the ascent out of the Devil's Elbow as far as the Glencree Rd. junction) has been resurfaced with the same loose gravel - I'd recommend avoiding it for the time being.
Also the bottom of Waterfall Rd. where it crosses the Dargle has had chippings spread over it in the last week or so and there's still a lot of loose material.
Does anyone know if these are the final surfaces, or if they'll get a topcoat once the chippings have bedded in a bit?

Unfortunately it's the final surface - "surface dressing" - the below link gives some rational behind it!!

That's disappointing - it does not make for a happy cycling experience!

Was there last evening and the surface looks desperate.
@Evan your link made for thrilling reading, after the initial definition of the process the FAQs take on a staunchly defensive but necessary style. Funny, they say the Irish built the roads in the UK ;-)
"The process entails spraying the road with bitumen and covering it with stone chippings. The dressing is then rolled, which together with the actions of slow moving traffic, embeds the stone chips into the surface."
Not sure how much spraying or rolling took place but there's definitely plenty of loose chippings left for the fairly speedy cars to send flying all over the place... like at you head!
