The Great Dublin Bike Ride takes place on Sunday 11th September, starting in Smithfield at 8am.

Cycling Ireland are looking for marshals for the day to help ensure this will be a safely run event.
If you would be available on Sunday 11th September and would be interested in helping please let me know.

What will be required?
• Prior to the event at least 2 Orwell members will attend a training course which in turn they will delivered to the rest of the Orwell marshals.
• The marshal briefing will take place on one evening in advance of the event. At this meeting you will receive details about the course, what is required of you on the day, bus pick up points etc.
• On the day of the event all marshals will be placed on their location 30 mins before the event reaches them.
• Cycling Ireland will arrange for a bus to collect all club members at a predetermined meeting point that morning.
• The bus will have high vis jackets and food for the day.
• A nominated person will act a leader on the bus and he / she will ensure each location point is covered.
• After the last marshal has been dropped off the bus will pull in off the road and wait for the broom wagon to pass. At that stage the bus will go back and collect each marshal and return them to the meeting point used earlier that morning.

If you would be interested in helping out at this event please reply to this thread.

Hi everyone,
we've had a request from the Great Dublin Bike Ride for drivers. They are looking for a driver for the pace car and the advance vehicle. Here is the contents of the request:

The Great Dublin Bike Ride requires two drivers for this year's event.
I have attached and below is the full brief for each vehicle full brief for each vehicle.
All drivers must hold a current Cycling Licence.

PACE CAR
The Pace Car for the 60km event will leave Smithfield after the last rider has departed and travel at a pace of 19kph. Their role is to ensure all participants arrive at the finish within the allocated time. Anyone who falls behind the pace of the Pace Car will be deemed out of the event.

As the Pace Car comes across riders on the route the will say the following line,
"You have been caught by the pace, this means you are unable to keep up a 19kph speed and I am advising to get into the Broom Wagon."

If the cyclist refuses then say,
"You are now outside the protection of the race and we have to move forward".

Please report back to base at key points on the schedule of time elapsed, keeping the control team informed of your position.

As a major cycle event the Great Dublin Bike Ride designate two Pace Cars.

The Pace Car, the Mini Bus and Broom Wagon for the 60km event will follow directly behind the event.

The Pace Car, the Mini Bus and Broom Wagon for the 100km event will leave at 07.45 and travel to the split point and wait for the cyclists to approach and follow them to the finish.

Pace cars have special identifying decals and deck light systems.

All Pace Cars are equipped with an event radio and route maps, please ensure your radio system is on Channel 1.

Pace Cars will maintain a speed of 19kph for the entire event.

At the end of the cycle please continue to the bottom of Queens Street, turn left onto Arran Quay, take the second street on the left (Lincoln Lane) and continue to Bow Street, where you can park your vehicle.

ADVANCE VEHICLE
The Advance Vehicle travelling in front of the event will serve as a visual warning to all marshals and volunteers. Allowing all the time to ensure their junction is setup and ready for the event.

This vehicle will leave Inns Quay at 07.40, allowing sufficient time to travel the 60km course.

If an issue arise they must be, if possible, immediately rectified or reported back the Event Control Room.

As a major cycle event the Great Dublin Bike Ride designate two Advance Vehicles.

Advance Vehicles have special identifying decals and deck light systems.

All Advance Vehicle is equipped with an event radio and route maps, please ensure your radio system is on Channel 1.

Advance Vehicles will maintain a distance of 15 minutes ahead of the event at all times.
