The Orwell Week will kick off with the Joe Daly Memorial on June 19th.

On Tuesday June 21st there will be the Stephen Roche GP.

The Nationals then kick off on Thursday June 23rd with a time trial in the evening (meaning getting from Dublin to the new start location in Kilcullen for evening marshaling and banter)

On Saturday there is the womens and masters road race.

And on Sunday there is the men's road race.

Finally we have a social night on the Sunday it finishes in the Goat to celebrate!

It will be quite an effort to get out and to marshal the nationals, especially considering we had hoped for the events to be in the Phoenix Park and now they are in Kilcullen. The time trial on Thursday has a 6pm start so getting out there with enough time to have a briefing and get to the marshaling spots is essential. Additionally on the Saturday and Sunday, traffic can be busy getting out to Kilcullen so planning (and car pooling) is essential for marshaling.

We will shortly be contacting members and getting back to members about specifying the marshaling roles etc etc but as part of the Orwell Leisure League and to promote craic etc, we were thinking of rewarding those that marshal the races with five points in the leisure league per time marshaling and also five points for the social night at the end of the week. The reason is we really do need members to marshal the events (and have the banter after).

This will enable members to contribute to their teams tally of points as well as their individual rankings. particularly the teams is a bit of craic - we are in the process of organising what the team prize might be but hopefully this can spurn members on! Anything can happen in the team competition especially for those who marshal multiple slots and attending the social over the Orwell week.

For the Randonneur competition, we want to acknowledge the sacrifice members are making so there will be one randonneur point allocated to those who marshal during the Orwell week. Even though its just one point, it would be really appreciated to marshal multiple times if possible.

There should be loads of banter going at the event as marshals and also we will get to banter with other clubs and get to know more people in Cycling Ireland. The more marshals we have, we can ensure we have a safe and successful event.

(Unfortunately I am missing this big week of the club as I booked a trip back in November when I had no idea we would be hosting this major event of Irish Cycling)
