Orwell Summer Weekend Away

Hi all

Along with Ann Horan, I'm delighted to announce we'll be having a Summer Weekend Away this year.

When: June Bank Hol Weekend Friday June 3rd to Monday June 6th. Travel Down Friday eve, cycle Sat and Sun, Travel home Monday.

Where: Tralee, Co Kerry

Why: 2 days of cycling
Stage 1 Tralee-Conor Pass-Dingle-Dingle Peninsula-Dingle-Coastal Road-Sliabh Mish-Tralee

2 Amazingly beautiful routes(basically the same as TKAS 2 day last year which is no longer on unfortunately. Both days are equally beautiful and you'll struggle to get 2 more scenic spins anywhere in the world. Although they are tough days out I would 100% recommend anyone to give em a go. They are within reach of anyone at Wicklow 200 level by June. They also happen to land on the weekend before the Wicklow 200 so would make an amazing block of training to do the 2 days of Tralee and then back to Dublin to do the W200 7 days later.

Both these days are ranked as Monuments in the Leisure Championships and are 5 points each.
They both also qualify as for the Randonneur Medal so if you do both you'll have 2 of your 12 done and dusted.

The standard apartment (1 double rooms, 3 single rooms) again all ensuite – this apartment does not have a dishwasher and would be older than the superior apartment - €229.00 for three nights
Each apt are 4 rooms en suite so it works out as €19 pp per night which is an absolute bargain. Book your apartment now as these will sell out. You'll have no problem filling these apartments up as the demand from Orwell is always very high so book one and post up here to fill up with fellow members!

Where will we eat? We'll figure that out closer to the weekend but the big night will be on Sunday night. The Friday and Saturday is do your own thing.

Food Stops? Pick a garage, cafe etc etc Dingle Day 1 and Glencar Day 2 are good options. We will have further more definitive suggestions a few weeks before the event but it's a self supported event.

I am planning to go down for the weekend and I am now organising accommodation. I was wondering if anybody has a spare room left or if you are interested sharing an apartment. I would book the apartment but at the same time it would be great to have one more person on board. I am sure we will find more "roommates" once we get closer to the weekend.

BTW, not sure if apartments are still available but I will call them on Sun or Mon.

Still some apts available but they are going quick....this will be the best training weekend away you'll find in Ireland and great craic also!
It will be brilliant fun for the whole club from white to red.
From a personal note if anyone like myself is aiming at the Alps or the Pyrenees be it Etape, Marmotte, Raid or Alpine Classic Cols Challenge this trip should be at the very top of your training plan!

1 Superior Apts and 3 Standard Apts left in the complex and they expect them to be gone by end of this week so if you're going to Tralee and haven't booked get on it! I won't have a spare rooms etc so if you need and apt book in yourselves and if you have a spare room post up here.
