The subs book for 1956.
Two of the new arrivals this year were each to go on and win National titles in their respective careers; Basil Whelan was the first, but most significant for us now was the arrival of a very young Noel O'Neill. February 27th 1956 is the date he paid up and officially joined the club for the first time, so his 60th anniversary is only a few months away!

As to whether fees have gone up or down .
£1 was = IR£ 1 in 1956 .
£1 then is worth £23.44 today which is equal to €33.34

This is a classic video worth watching!
The 1956 Bray Circuit Race video shows the pre race prep and banter, riders being led through the town by a pipe band and some legends of Irish cycling including Orwell member Noel Hammond. There looked to be a great crowd watching - especially down at the seafront where the finish line was.
Thanks to Aidan Hammond and Paul O’Donohue for sharing.
