Last week's DMS races in the Club League provided an Orwell double and a near miss in the third race as Stephen McNally took the honours in the Scratch race and Ronnie Brannigan celebrated his return to action with a narrow win in the Semi Limit/Limit race.
Ace sprinter Romano Morelli opened up his win account for 2009 with an unstoppable burst of speed in round 19 of the Inter-Club League at Batterstown on Thursday night.
The Orwell youth squad has enjoyed a stellar season on the road and track and produced another raft of great results at the National Youth Championships at the Eamonn Ceannt circuit in Dublin on Saturday August 15th. Star performer Craig Arrigan has produced the following report detailing the events of another great day for the Orwell.

 

Gary McNulty's prodigious finishing sprint paid dividends once more in Roundwood on Saturday 22 August as he powered in to win the rescheduled Ashford Grand Prix.
Twenty-four years after he won the national pursuit title at Sundrive Road, Stephen McNally won his second national gold medal at the same venue when he took victory in the Veteran's Track Championships on Saturday 29 August.
Stephen McNally showed the importance of always sprinting for the line as he took another hard fought win in the prestigious Sonny Cullen Memorial IVCA handicap race at Batterstown on Sunday 23 August.

Frank Keane led the field in the bunch gallop at the end of the 80km Groups C and D DMS at Batterstown last Sunday. Keane held off Victor Hynes and Jimmy Lally at the end of four laps of the 'Green Sheds' circuit with Romano Morelli sixth in the group dash to the line.

Stephen McNally was one of just three Scratch riders to overhaul the Limit group in the IVCA 70km handicap on the Curragh last Sunday, the Dunboyne based supervet finishing in thoroughbred style to take his second win of the season on the arduous Boston Hill circuit.
The first of 6 league races took place today, with the opening round being a 10km Time Trial. On a glorious summer evening 20 ladies lined up to take part and race against the clock. The pace was fast and furious with every lady giving it everything they had - in a time trial every second counts and as it turned out, even every hundredth of a second, with some very close action indeed!
Hard racing at the Wicklow League saw many of the handicapped groups coming together, culminating in a close sprint for the line.
