Following on from the Orwell 200 the next in the series is the Midlands 300, in 3 weeks time. There was a good bit of interest in this at the finish yesterday, and Dave had a handful of entries in already so it is likely to be another big field. For most people completing a 200 will be as far as they will ever hope to go in a day, but for the few who are tempted to try go one step further there will probably be no better opportunity to give it a go. Details are below.

The final event in the Orwell Super Randonneur series is coming up in two weekends time, in the shape of The National 600. This is an old classic back in the calendar after an absence of 8 years, and is probably the most beginner friendly 600 around. Full details below!

When Dave Mc suggested running a 200km audax in March, he didn't expect quite so many Orwell members to be eager to flay themselves so early in the year. 32 members signed on, including the ever-prolific Billy Parker, who provides us with an excellent account of the day below!

The Eoin McLove crosses Ireland - you leave Whitehall, head to Lucan and use secondary roads to Athy, on to Templemore, Nenagh, Portumna, Drumshanbo, Belturbut, Ballybay, Virginia, Kells, Kilmessin and back to the car park in Whitehall. Seriously you would not drive it! So, 40 odd people, ten from Orwell set off in good spirits on a nice enough morning.

Orwell's John McElligott is organising a challenging 200km with a significant amount of climbing and descending on some of the quietest and most spectacular roads that Kerry has to offer.

James O'Callaghan is a veteran of many long and testing cycles - audaxes, Marmottes and countless others but this summer he took on his biggest challenge to date in the form of the Mile Failte 1,200. The Leisure cyclist of the Year 2014 participation based event kicked off this weekend with the Ardattin 200, as well as several randonée events around the country. Greg Farrell shares his first audax experience below!

The Midlands 300 will take place on Sunday the 31st of March and is the second of 3 Audax events which will be hosted by Scott Orwell Wheelers in 2019. This event is a great stepping stone for anyone thinking of trying a longer Audax after a 200km, the experienced or those starting on the road to PBP qualification.

The Orwell 200 will take place on Sunday the 8th of March and is the first of 2 Audax events which will be hosted by Scott Orwell Wheelers in 2020. This event is a great starting point for anyone thinking of giving Audaxing a go or the experienced.

A collective madness of randonneurs and the communities along the route that support them on their journey. What else but madness could describe 6000 cyclists all who must qualify by riding 200, 300, 400- and 600-kilometre Brevet events just to get to the start line. Or for a 100 years whole communities, towns, villages and generations of families, set up sleep, food, coffee and water stops often for free to help this long chain of riders reach Paris? Why do the cyclists and spectators who share the 1200 Klm of road do this, for no prize, for no reward?  If this is not some collective madness, then it must be something beautiful, ordinary people doing something extraordinary.

“This isn’t too bad, I must be pretty good at this stuff!” - I’d made it past The Deep Sink, supposedly the worst part of the route, and now the rocky gnarly path became muddy slippery. Just need to be in the moment, let my balance flow with the terrain. ‘OOF!’ I hear behind me, another casualty. Right then my own front and rear wheels have a disagreement, and I land on my side. Over the August bank holiday weekend, while much of the country was sodden and flooded, John McElligot organised the latest addition to the Orwell calendar, the Inner Ring Audax, which was held in the sunny south-west of Kerry. He tells us how his day went below...

'The Longest Day' is the name of a 1962 epic war film about the 1944 D-Day landings; the story that follows is about a battle of a very different kind. 05:30 am - 6th August 2016, 14 Riders -300km, 3 scheduled stops -20 hour Time limit.

Last Summer, Joe did the 180km version of the Giants Causeway Sportive. But he missed the cutoff time to finish over Torr Head. As a result, Torr Head was a bit of "unfinished business". The Titanic Torr event this April seemed like an ideal solution – a 200km Audax, starting from Belfast, with Torr Head at about 95km.

In Villaines, the whole population is in the streets. “Huh, there seems to be a festival going on.” “YOU’re the festival, bozo!” I park the bike and run up the steps to get my card stamped. The crowd cheers and parts in front of me, the brevet card in my hand become the Olympic torch, carried across continents to the controller’s rubber stamp.
