Boot Inn League Race 5

Another damp and windy Wednesday at the Boot Inn didn't curb the enthusism of cyclists, race organisers and supporters alike. The penultimate 20 mile race was hosted by Lucan Staggs and brought another shuffle in the make-up of the Limit, Semi-Scratch and Scratch groups to add to the uncertainity of how the race would unfold.

The Limit group set off at a cautious pace for the first lap. Speed picked up entering the second perhaps spurred along by whispers of making the best of that extra bit of time we had over the Scratch group this week. Despite best efforts, Semi-Scratch caught up entering the third lap and the speed picked up more reducing the bunch to four as the lap progressed; Sandra Fitzgerald, Monica Marconi, Geraldine Gill and myself work together to stay ahead of the Scratch for a spint finish.

Winner, Sandra Fitzgerald (Lucan) took the sprint easily. Monica Marconi (Orwell Wheelers) taking third place ahead of Geraldine Gill (Bohermeen). Sandra Telford (Orwell) and Kathleen Gill (Bohermeen) worked together to finish in 5th and 6th.

Another great night at the Boot Inn with thanks as always to race organisers and marshals, photographer Brendan Culleton and supporters. Next week sees a break from racing with the league finishing on 27th May.

The race results makes it all very tight at the top with Orla McEvoy sharing first place with previous winner Roisin Kennedy (Lucan).
