Youths on Target in the Palmerstown

Orwell’s Youth contingent once again produced the strongest results after a hectic weekend’s racing in Meath and Dublin.

First year Under 16 Arrigan took a break from A4 racing for some some Youth racing in Waterstown Park where he finished runner up, only beaten to top spot by training partner Shaun Rigley (Eurocycles).

Darragh Long produced a similar result in finishing behind Eddie Dunbar of Kanturk in the Under 14 race while Rachael Mellor raced strongly to finish fifth in the Under 12 race.

In Balbriggan the same day, Declan Byrne showed signs of a welcome return to form with a strong ninth place finish in the A3 race over three laps of the testing Ben McKenna Memorial course. Eddie Lynch and Aidan Collins both raced strongly to the finish in the greatly depleted bunch but Lynch’s chances of getting up in the sprint were stymied by a puncture within sight of the line.

Meanwhile, the previous evening in Balrothery, Declan Quigley was one of four A4s that slotted in with the break from the A3 group which contested the finish of the Harry Reynolds Memorial. Quigley emerged with the second unplaced A4 prize.
