Aideen Collard and Orla Hendron have flown the flag for Orwell and Ireland with medal winning performances in the World Masters Cycling Championships in Portugal.

Following up their medal wins in the European Championships earlier this season, Collard took silver medals in the 2km Pursuit and the scratch race in the 35-39-year-old age group.

Hendron just missed out on a medal in her favourite event, 2km Pursuit in the 45-49-year-old category but steeled herself for the fight and achieved her medal goal in the scratch race on Thursday evening.

With the sprint and points race to go, it’s already been a hugely successful event for the duo who have redoubled their training efforts in recent weeks just as everyone else was winding down for the winter recess.
