In the latest in the series of coaching classes for club members, former Irish international and long time Orwell member Scott McDonald will present a seminar on race tactics at 7.30pm on Monday, February 21st. The seminar will take place at the premises of McDonald's Winning Solutions training facility at Bluebell, just off the Naas Road in Dublin. The seminar represents an excellent opportunity for new or aspiring racers to glean some knowledge and experience from a highly accomplished racer to help avoid some of the inevitable pitfalls encountered by rookies in what is a tactically complex sport. While it is primarily intended for new racers, the event will also be a useful opportunity for more experienced riders to focus their attention on aspects of their racing that they may have neglected of late. Sportive riders can also pick up tips on topics such as energy management, tactics, food delivery and other subjects that can help them make the most of all their hard work in training. The format for the evening's discussion will be as follows: Race tactics: Getting in a break Conserving energy for the right attacks Sprinter tactics Using team mates position to your advantage (and the clubs advantage) Non sprinter tactics Stage race tactics – for the individual – and also team tactics Training once the season starts: Training between races Building for a stage race - e.g. Gorey 3 Day
