Two intrepid Orwellians embark on separate week long challenges this weekend.

John Twomey begins the epic Mizen 2 Malin Challenge from Cork today while Odhrán Connors heads out in the FBD Ras from Dunboyne tomorrow.

Twomey will be part of a group of 80 riders aiming to complete the journey from Mizen head near Bantry in Co Cork to Malin Head in Donegal by next Saturday with a daily schedule of approximately 75 miles.

The event is aiming to raise €100,000 for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Further details at www.mizen2malin.ie

On Sunday Odhrán Connors heads out on his second FBD Ras, this time as a guest on the Wexford team. Odhrán missed much of the early season due to illness but his form has started to blossom in recent weeks as evidenced by his fine win in the Orwell Hillclimb Championships and a strong ride in the Noel Hammond Memorial last weekend.

Having impressed all with his dogged determination in battling a chest infection all the way to the finish of last year’s Ras, Odhrán will be hoping for a clear run through this year’s eight-day, 1219km event .
