Youth:

After their exploits in Scotland last weekend our youth are on the road again! Ras Na nOg is one of the major youth multi- day stage races in the country.  Races are in U12 / U14/ U16 w/ girls and boys prizes as well as best 11/13/15 . Stage 1 is a crit on a very tight circuit and great to watch as riders fly past every few minutes . Stage 2 is a road race with a savage hill to the finish line - well over 1k , Stage 3 is another road race on a flatter surface and gets very fast on the long flat wide R150 up to the finish line.

Vets:

Racing this week takes the Vets to Kilcullen on Sunday morning where racing will take place over a lot of the course Scott-Orwell Wheelers used for the National Championships two years ago. Memories will be flooding back for some of the competitors especially as many of them were involved in organising the Nationals! Best of luck to all.

Leisure:

Training spins for the Wicklow 100, 200 and the Mt Leinster groups continue on Saturday.

Sportive Season is starting to build now and this weekend there are a lot of options for anyone wanting to test the spring legs to see how they have wintered! Here are a couple of my favourites from over the years -

The Tour De Foothills is a local (ish) favourite and over the years has been a season opener for many an Orwell Wheeler. Well run by Naas cycling club it offers 2 testing routes – 65 or 110km, both of which include a lap of the Blessington lakes.  https://www.naascyclingclub.com/tourdefoothills/

If you are looking for a fast and flat run the Pat Jones Memorial is on Saturday. Run by Team 905 in Edenderry it is a very friendly sportive with good food stops and live music at the end.  http://www.team905.cc/home/

There are of course lots of different options every weekend depending on what part of the country you find yourself in. a great source of information is the Cycling Ireland events calendar - http://www.cyclingireland.ie/page/events/events-calendar/leisure-sportive-events

Leisure Training:

The leisure committee have added Aidan Hammonds  Wicklow 100 and 200 training plans to the Club Website. Aidan outlined these at the recent launch night . They allow you personalize your plans using your maximum and resting heart rates. The plan runs from this week up to the www events in June . They are a fantastic daily and weekly plan. You can access these at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ex5RVbNBJzD06P6NZV3vWhwdpRPRIju8GgcvBorg95w/edit?usp=sharing

Photo Competition:

The Leisure Committee has also organised a new photo competition. We hope to capture photos of Scott-Orwell Wheelers C.C. activities in this our 70th. anniversary year. Most modern mobile phones have a camera, which means photos can be taken in an informal and quick way.

If you DO NOT WISH to have your photo taken please inform all the people in your training group of this request.  For example, if you stand and pose in them then the photographer will assume, you consent. You always have the choice to ask the photographer to delete the picture. Photos which are entered will likely be posted to the club website, Facebook and/or Twitter.

Information on how to enter you photos in the competition will be available soon but for now keep snapping! Remember photo of bikes and/or people in Orwell gear are always welcomeJ
