Would you like to be able to pull a wheelie? Can you bunny hop the pothole that appears suddenly ?
Have you ever tried to cycle the Ring of Kerry with 10,000 others in very close proximity and wished you were a little more confident in your bike handling skills ?
Have you perhaps been cycling for a few months or few years but still figure you’re missing out on something about how to handle the bike?
Have you……well hopefully you get the idea of that these classes will be about.
Bryan Geary will be hosting three cycling skills and bike handling sessions in Corkagh Park on the following dates and times
April 27th 6:30-8:00
May 11th 6:30-8:30
May 25th 6:30-8:30
The aim of this course is for any Orwell rider to become more skilful on their bike and more comfortable in their group, be it a sportive peloton or a race bunch. Many will have learnt the etiquette of riding in a group from road leaders on the weekend spins but in a more confined but safer environment, riders in this course can practise balancing techniques, following wheels, riding shoulder to shoulder, learning basic bike handling tricks so as to avoid or prepare for an incident safely.
Members will practise techniques in a fun-filled atmosphere. Every aspect of the session will be dynamic with cyclists on their bikes at all times. The course will aim to be mentally challenging as riders fine tune their bike balance, their attention to detail, cornering (sometimes at speed), following wheels, riding in close proximity, chain gang riding, bunny hopping, moving off, braking, be it in the form of games such as "Slow bike musical chairs" or more competitive mini-sprints from a foot down start, bottom bracket slaloms, picking up/setting down objects without getting off the bike, even crashing and falling the correct way so as to minimise injury!
The sessions are open to all and we do ask you to register for one, two or three classes . You will get the most benefit from attending all three but each week is also a standalone session . Each week we will ramp up the exercises and skill level required so that all riders are comfortable with what they can do with their bikes, aside from riding it !
At the end of the three week course, riders will be assessed and monitored and of course, to keep the competitive juices flowing, we will have a little competition to see who is Orwell's 2015 Skill and Bike Handling Champion!

Can I go on the reserve list for 11th & 25th May?
At least Paula can teach me to wheelie if I don't get on.

I cannot make the first session on the 11th May . So Dan looks like your luck is in for that session.
